** Fun fact: Wounds heal most effectively when they are as wet as an eyeball.
For the following 2 weeks, minimum:
- Give your tattoo at least 2 weeks to heal. The new skin will be fresh and may still be sensitive after 2 weeks.- Your tattoo is a really expensive wound! Treat it like one.- Do not soak your tattoo.
** (No swimming, baths, or saunas)- Keep out of direct sunlight.
** (Do NOT apply sunscreen to your healing tattoo)- Do NOT exfoliate or shave the tattooed area for at least a month.
** The new skin on a freshly healed tattoo can be very fragile.- If it comes in contact with excess sweat, animals or dirt, wash the tattoo as soon as possible.
Other Considerations:
- Make sure your bedding and clothing are clean.- Avoid tight clothing that rubs the tattoo.
- Avoid clothing made of animal hair.- Keep your pets away from your fresh tattoo! Animals carry a lot of bacteria that can easily infect the tattoo.- Excessive sweating attracts bacteria. Wash the tattoo anytime it is exposed to sweat.
Exceptional areas to take extra precautions with:
Joints: Keep movement to a minimum, Be mindful. The skin movement can prolong healing.Torso: Avoid stretching the skin too much while healing.Lower Limbs: Due to circulation and pressure from muscles against the skin, leg tattoos can take longer to heal.
Make sure to limit your activities & elevate the legs when possible.
